Also in Thursday's lesson we wrote down why we thought 'Public Enemies', 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' and 'Funny People' were all trailers and what aspects they used to portray this. We also watched two opening sequences from 'Fargo' and 'Mulholland Drive' and then we discussed why we thought they were good opening sequences.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Trailer
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince directed by (Daniel Yates) was made from the book that J,K Rowling wrote. This is the sixth Harry Potter film within the season, the book was two big that they had to split it into two films and the second half of the book is soon to be released. The trailer looks amazing and its expected to be as good as the other 5 films.
At the beginning of the trailer there is a piece of fast and upbeat music which grabs the audiences attention, but then slowly fades into a soft piano piece which lasts for a while in the clip. I think this is really impressive because you get the fast upbeat music to grab the audiences attention which makes them interested in the film and then slowly fades into a soft piano piece which is really elegant and this shows two sides to the movie.Towards the middle of the trailer this is a deep American voice over which tells you a little bit about the story and what is happening within that particular clip.
There is a kaleidoscope of images taken from the film, some of the images are romantic, some are action and some are pure evil, which is why it is a really effective trailer because it portrays different aspects on the film. In every clip that is being shown, the Mise En Scene is either completely different or similar in different ways. For the first 27 seconds of the trailer, the main items you can see within the frame are moving water which is crashing against the rocks, with Harry Potter and Professor Dumbledore standing upon the rocks. This raises a few questions such as why are they there?, how have they got there? and what is going to happen?. However, the first 27 seconds is split into two different frames with a few similarities, but then the Mise En Scene completely changes, i think this looks professional as the director wants to keep the audience interested and intrigued rather than boring them to death.
There is a lot of special effects used within the film such as the skull appearing in the clouds, this is really powerful as it shows an evil and dark side to the film. At the end of the trailer the original Harry Potter logo appears along with the soundtrack in the background.
On the performance side, I think all of the actors sustained a positive and professional part in the film. Performance is a key element within film making, because if an actor slips up or makes a mistake it jeopardises the entire film. Every Harry Potter film that has been made so far has been phenomenal, especially Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince because there is a lot of fight scenes against other members of the school as well as pure evil from Voldemort. It takes a lot of effort and professionalism to pull of many fights and romance scenes without making an error. Personally I think the acting overall was very sustained throughout the whole film.
